MANAGING PRINCIPAL

Sue's introduction to architecture came at career day in third grade, when her best friend's father—an architect—described the challenges of designing a new public library for their New Jersey town. She’s been captivated by the relationship between buildings and communities ever since.

A cornerstone of the firm since 1998, Sue continues to oversee Bond’s operations while leading the planning and design of libraries, schools, and civic spaces. She’s widely recognized for her ability to design community icons that serve as welcoming information centers, and she’s also an influential voice on trauma-informed design.

Outside the office, Susan is a true maker—an enthusiastic cook and hands-on creative who has mastered everything from knitting and sewing to metal casting and glassblowing. She and her partner Tom—also an architect—share what might be St. Louis’ most ambitious home improvement project: a 13,000-square-foot, century-old former telephone exchange in South City that they’ve transformed into a massive maker space.

A devoted dog mom, Sue has been known to invite her Great Pyrenees mix, Noodle, to the office for a four-legged visit.
