Bond Architects designed the renovation and 10,500 square foot addition to the beloved Kirkwood Public Library. The historic exterior was restored, while the 1964 building addition was replaced. The required amount of shelving was calculated on the collection count and circulation rate. The floor plan and interiors were designed to allow for easier pedestrian flow and enhanced efficiency. Placement of a new elevator resulted in full ADA accessibility for the building. The reading room features a historic library photo mural, completed in collaboration with the Kirkwood Historical Society and local college students. The building also contains a “Library Friends” gift shop, a dedicated workroom and a meeting room along with restrooms which are accessible after the library closes for individual or organizational meetings. The Children’s Area circulation desk features painted tiles designed by young patrons of the Library.
